Welcome
TonyMusic

TonyMusic is a musician’s music house.

Creative Director Tony Mangurian and his team of musicians at TonyMusic have recorded and toured with some of the biggest artists in rock, pop, jazz, even classical music. Unlike typical “music houses”, Tony and the musicians he works with are recording artists at the top of the music business, able to work authentically in a huge range of musical styles and genres.

Tony has a keen sense of what’s right for the project, how to capture the mood and give it the energy it needs. He is a master of Scoring to film – he gets the nuances. He listens to you. And he can write a tune that gets under your skin.

Tony was raised on Bleecker Street in New York’s Greenwich Village. He attended the “Fame” school (Music and Art High School), studied percussion with Morris Lang from the NY Philharmonic, and at the urging of Phillip Glass, studied composition at Mannes School of Music. As a teen, he was part of the 80’s New York downtown art scene-he worked as an assistant to the artist Jean Michel Basquiat and toured with early MTV band The Flirts.

As his interests turned to recording and production, he released his first record with DJ Mark Kamins (who launched Madonna’s career). He then helped establish the band Luscious Jackson and recorded and co-produced their albums throughout the 90’s, including the single “Naked Eye”. Working with legendary producer Daniel Lanois, Tony collaborated on Bob Dylan’s “Time out of Mind” (winner of a grammy for record of the year), Willie Nelson’s “Teatro” and Lanois own album “Shine” and “Here is What is”. Tony produced the groundbreaking Chris Whitely album “Rocket House” for Dave Mathews’ label ATO Records. Tony has done session work for many artists including Sinead O’Connor, Dido, Patti Scialfa, Marianne Faithfull, Emmy Lou Harris, Jose “El Canario” Alberto, Vusi Mahlasela, Derek Trucks, Johnny Lang and many more. His production work can be heard on U2’s album “No Line on the Horizon”, Mixes on Devendra Banharts “What Will Be” and digital editing on Neil Young’s “Le Noise”, which won a grammy for Best Rock song.

His advertising career is similarly star-studded. He created the jingle for CoverGirl Cosmetics – helping to make “Easy Breezy Beautiful CoverGirl” one of the best known lines in the advertising world for almost 20 years. For CoverGirl he wrote and produced spots which featured on camera singing with stars like Faith Hill, Brandy, Queen Latifah, Salt n Pepa, Q-Tip and Ziggy Marley, among others. His many advertising successes include work for L’Oreal, Clairol, Pantene, Downy, and for the last ten years Toyota.

Tony’s latest projects include a remix of Daniel Lanois’ album “Goodbye to Language”, which can be found on this site in the Music Production page. Tony is also releasing a collection of Film Trailer music, writing and producing songs with various artists and continuing to work for Ad clients Toyota and others.
